So little time, so much to do.

Things I’m raving and/or ranting about:

1. Finish my final paper [(Un)titled: Issues and Politics of Representation in Exhibition Catalogues Funded by the NCCA]. It badly needs a better title. My attempt: no more intellectual masterbation. Deadline is on October 11.
2. Go to Citibank Makati and BDO and have my Adsense and salary cheques encashed. A-S-A-P.
3. Prepare my weekly work report.
4. Clean up my messy apartment.
5. DVD Marathon
6. Banaue trip.
7. Clearance! Fuck @!^&%!

Octoberfest…
Saturday, September 29, 2007,10:12 PM

…sucked big time! It rained hard. We missed the bands, chose the wrong inuman spot and ordered unappetizing pulutan. It was a not-so-lucky evening/morning for us. Anyway, we still had fun, or should I say, attempted to (as seen in the photos).

God Was Not A Structuralist
Wednesday, September 26, 2007,11:26 PM

"The golden age of cultural theory is long past...fate pushed Roland Barthes under a Parisian laundry van, and afflicted Michel Foucault with AIDS. It dispatched Lacan, Williams and Bourdieu and banished Louis Althusser to a psychiatric hospital to the number of his wife. It seemed that God was not a structuralist." - Terry Eagleton, After Theory

My Second Google Adsense Cheque
Monday, September 24, 2007,4:59 PM

I’m US$106.23 richer. Hehe.

My second Google Adsense cheque, dated August 28, arrived two days ago. Again there’s really nothing spectacular with the amount, but receiving a cheque from Google for the second time (without exerting that much effort) is even sweeter.

My Second Google Adsense Cheque

By the way, I still haven’t enchashed my first Google Adsense Cheque. I think it’s about time that I open a dollar account or visit the Citibank in Makati and have it encashed there soon.

Smash!
Sunday, September 23, 2007,4:34 PM

Went to Star Smash Badminton Center in Timog yesterday with workmates for our much-anticipated monthly team-building activity. It’s been a while since I played badminton or any sports for that matter but I still managed to kick some butt at the court. Ehem.

For some weird reason, my team – the Blazing Red Team - won the competition. Haha.

Pasalubong
Saturday, September 22, 2007,5:06 PM

Wala akong panahong magsulat ng mala-nobelang entry ngayon, kaya’t magkakasya na lang ako sa buod. Maraming nangyari, nainom, nasambulat, napagkuwentuhan, at iba pa. Hindi ako hihinga. Sa UP ako nagtrabaho kahapon. Late siyang dumating. Tagal ko na palang ‘di nakikita ‘to. Kagagaling lang niya ng Thailand. Astig, nagback-packing mag-isa. Paksyet, wala man lang pasalubong sa amin kahit keychain man lang. Pero marami siyang pasalubong na larawan, istorya at memorya. Galing! Ayun, naka-tatlong bote ako ng Red Horse. Tinamaan ako ng lintek. Marami kaming nagpagkuwentuhan, napagplanuhan – at, higit sa lahat, dapat pag-ipunan. Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos – here we come! Sana matuloy. ‘Yun lang.

Galaxiki
Wednesday, September 19, 2007,11:16 AM

Wanna play God? Be a Galaxician! Found this cool website called Galaxiki, a fictional online galaxy where you can create your own fantasy solar system and edit stars, planets and moons.

Go ahead and take the tour.

Here’s part of the Galaxiki description by Jos Kirps, the site creator:

"Millions of stars, planets, moons, pulsars and black holes can be explored using an intuitive 2D map. The site software manages most of the physical properties and behaviours of the solar systems, from orbits to the chemical composition of planetary atmospheres. Some planets offer conditions that may allow life - the idea behind Galaxiki is that community members can create fictional life forms and write about their histories on their planets. The ease of use attracts all kinds of users, so that the target audience is not limited to science fiction and astronomy addicts.

The Galaxiki physics allow taveling faster than light, and journeys between solar systems become possible within a reasonable timeframe for advanced fictive civilisations. This also means that different civilisations may meet each other at different time points, the challenge for advanced users will be to keep the global history of all civilisations in the galaxy consistent. Galaxiki is both fun and challenging, for individuals and for the community. It’s like dreams becoming true, and you’re part of it - I think that’s what makes it so attractive."

The Art of War Exhibit
Monday, September 17, 2007,8:04 PM

Organized by the University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP) class under Laya Boquiren, "The Art of War" is an exhibit that depicts different, but modern, battlefields where man wages his daily battles. From the physical or the material plane which he molecularly exists, to the simulacra where the real and the unreal simultaneously exists. It is an evocative and entertaining exhibit where one can call to mind the various experiences one has had in the translocal arena. At the same time, we are astounded by the far reaching planes where man can wage his wars through the use of New Media technologies. The exhibit will utilize plasma TVs, flatscreens, laser lights and more!

What? New Media Art exhibit
When? September 20, 2007 7:30pm
Where? University of Asia & the Pacific--1605 Pasig City, Pearl Drive, Ortigas Center

American Doll Posse
Saturday, September 15, 2007,4:13 PM

Bought Tori Amos’ ninth studio album, American Doll Posse, yesterday at Music One Glorietta for only P375. The CD, which contains 23 tracks and falls under the “concept album” category, is said to be a critique of the Pussycat Dolls and Tori's most political record to date. Here she adopts five controversial personas namely: Tori (Terra-tories), Pip (Expiratorial), Isabel (Historical), Clyde (Clitorides) and Santa (Sanatorium). Read the album reviews here, here and here.

Tori Amos' Americal Doll Posse Tracklist:

Guilty!
Wednesday, September 12, 2007,9:13 PM

After six-long years of trial, Erap was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the case of plunder and not guilty for the lesser crime of perjury. He was sentenced to suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua or serve up to 40 years in prison. The battle, however, is far from over. Estrada’s lawyers, as usual, vowed to appeal. Read the entire story here.

Bushisms*
Monday, September 10, 2007,9:52 PM

Bush is a fucking moron! Famous for committing plenty of gaffes in the past, Bush The Idiot has successfully done it again, this time at the APEC summit in Australia.

Error #1:
Bush mispronounced the convention name. While acknowledging Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Bush said "Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit.” Ooops. APEC is an annual meeting of leaders from countries from the Asia-Pacific region, while OPEC is a cartel of major oil producers. Bush, apparently, had oil on the mind.

Error #2:
Trying to save himself from extreme humiliation, Bush made another shameful mistake. He joked about why he said OPEC rather than APEC, saying that Howard invited him recently to the OPEC summit next year. This is impossible because both the United States and Australia are not OPEC members.

Error #3:
Bush erroneously called Australian troops as Austrians, as he was thanking Howard for visiting Iraq last year.

Error #4:
The grandest of all mistakes – Bush exited the wrong way of the stage. Luckily he was escorted back to the right exit by Howard. Hahahaha.

Here is the clip of George W. Bush's Bushisms at the APEC summit:

Bush The Idiot doing what he does best -
humiliating himself infront of the world!

*A Bushism is any of a number of peculiar words, phrases, pronunciations, malapropisms, semantic or linguistic errors and gaffes that have occurred in the public speaking of United States President George W. Bush and, before that, of his father George H. W. Bush. (from Wikipedia)

Timog
Sunday, September 9, 2007,11:46 AM

Splurging at its best! Haha. Went toma hopping at Timog with ex-officemates. Present to the occasion were: Eica, Rheanna, Carla, Syeta and Jerick. Mengski was a no-show. I hate you baby (kiddin')! Our first stop was Mister Kabab, then headed to Quattro then Pier One and finally Starbucks.

Quotable quotes:

Carla: Iba ka na Syeta, naka-closed shoes ka na ngayon. Baka sa susunod kabibe naman yang nasa ulo mo.
Syeta: Kabibe? Pano ko naman ilalagay sa ulo ko ang "DUCK!??"
Carla: Adik! Bibe yun!

Stomp
Saturday, September 8, 2007,10:33 PM

I was recently introduced by a friend to this percussion band and dance troupe named Stomp and I find this group really amazing. They make intricate, extraordinary sounds out of normal objects and household items, even junks. These clips feature them playing from a massive billboard in Manhattan and making rhythms using basketballs and kitchen equipment. Astig.

Wondering which companies were the first to jump on the internet bandwagon? Found this interesting list by The Forrester of the first 100 domains ever registered on the internet. Justice For Cris
Sunday, September 2, 2007,1:33 AM

Cris Anthony Mendez, the graduating UP student and Sigma Rho neophyte who died after a hazing rite, was finally laid to rest yesterday in his hometown in Quezon. The scene at the funeral was, as expected, emotional for his family and close friends. Read the complete story here.

As of today, the Sigma Rho Fraternity remains to hide behind the veil of silence. No press statement whatsoever explaining their side of the story has been issued. The Sigma Rhoans are also nowhere to be found these days in their tambayans. And we can only wonder why. Tsk.

The only good news is, the investigation is rolling and now on its way of putting the details together and naming the probable culprits behind Mendez’s irrational death. Dr. Francisco Cruz, the assistant chief of the VMMC Ophthalmology Department who brought Mendez to the hospital, has already expressed his willingness to cooperate to the police. Hopefully, Dr. Cruz will tell the “whole” truth - no more, no less.

This vicious cycle of frat-related violence in UP has to stop! Join the Justice for Cris Mendez crusade!
