Chucks
Sunday, August 31, 2008,10:18 PM

Potipot Island
Thursday, August 28, 2008,7:51 PM

Went camping to Potipot, a small island paradise in Uacon, Candelaria, Zambales, last August 23-24, 2008. It’s too small that you can walk around it in less than 30 minutes.

I should say among the beaches I’ve been to before, Potipot is on my top list. Who wouldn't want to explore a little island that has crystal clear water and a long stretch of white sand beach sans the crowd? In fact, we were the only ones who spent the night in the entire island, so just imagine how scary and exciting that was!

If you're also interested, here are the details of how to get to Potipot Island:

Transportation: From Victory Liner Terminal in Caloocan, take the bus going to Sta.Cruz, Zambales. The ticket to Sta. Cruz costs 437 pesos but if you tell at the ticket booth you’re going to Candelaria, you’ll save up around 10 or 20 pesos. The entire trip, including some stopovers, takes about 6 hours. Tell the conductor that you'll alight at Dawal Beach Resort in Candelaria.

Arrival: As soon as you get down the bus, you can head straight to Dawal Beach Resort or other neighboring resorts. In Dawal, an entrance fee of 20 pesos will be charged which you can use if you need to take a shower after your trip to Potipot. If you're planning to check in at Dawal, room rates start at 1,000 pesos for 2 persons, 1,200 pesos for 3 persons, and so on. If you want to go camping, you can ask the front desk personnel to assist you with a boatman to bring you to the island. You'll spend 400 pesos for the two-way boat ride. Upon reaching the island, you'll be charged another 20 pesos if you’ll just be staying over and 100 pesos if you plan to stay overnight.

Departure: From Dawal Beach Resort, you can take a jeep going to Sta.Cruz which takes around 15 to 20 minutes. You can tell the driver that you'll be going down the Victory Liner Terminal.

Bolinao
Wednesday, August 20, 2008,4:48 PM

There’s no better way to spend the recent long weekend vacation than going to a quaint beach paradise away from urban realities with your friends. The experience was far much better than the last time I visited the town of Bolinao, Pangasinan. I got the chance to try out skimboarding and go to an underground cave for the very first time.

Villa Carolina, the resort where we stayed for two days, was excellent. It is situated in Brgy. Ilog Malino about 15 minutes away from the town proper and has a very nice beachfront and skim spot during lowtide and Venetian-inspired pool area. The 7500php package, which included room accommodation, sumptuous meals and free transportation, was good enough for six persons. Thanks to Ate Carol, the owner, and the resort staff for being so accommodating!

The weather wasn’t cooperating at first but we had a blast on our second day trip. We went to the famous white sand Patar Beach, Cape Bolinao Lighthouse and Enchanted Cave with underground pool, and before heading home, visited St. James Cathedral and bought pasalubong at the town’s market. Everybody agreed to go to Bolinao again, probably next summer! Yebah!

You can find more amazing photos here.
